The royal family released its Christmas cards last week and apart from being completely adorable, there is one sweet detail we all missed.

Take a closer look at Princess Charlotte. Do you recognize her sweater?

The little princess is wearing older brother Prince George’s Fina Ejerique sweater. It already had a special significance, as Charlotte wore the same outfit to pose for a photo with her new little brother, Prince Louis.

The cardigan is particularly special for another reason too, as it was worn by Prince George in a family photo with the queen.

It was the same sweater George wore in the portrait released to celebrate the Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday in 2016.

The family Christmas photo shows Kate Middleton and Prince William with their three children —George, 5, Charlotte, 3, and 7-month-old Prince Louis — on the grounds of their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall.

George, who usually wears shorts and long socks, wore blue trousers, a ribbed sweater with red piping and Hunter Wellington boots.

The prince’s new look sent some royal fans into a frenzy, as they pointed out the young royal may have finally graduated from only wearing shorts.

However, an etiquette expert revealed there’s a reason behind Middleton’s decision to dress her little boy in shorts.

“Trousers are for older boys and men, whereas shorts on younger boys are one of the silent class markers that we have in England,” William Hanson told Harper’s Bazaar in June. “Although times are (slowly) changing, a pair of trousers on a young boy is considered quite middle class — quite suburban.”

The last time we saw the five of them in public was for Prince Louis’s christening in July. However, photos of them with Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were released in November to commemorate the Prince of Wales’s 70th birthday.
