When it comes to the holiday season, unfortunately, a lot of waste comes with it. From single-use wrapping paper and gift bags to the excess of packaging materials that online orders come in, the holidays are not very ecofriendly.
So this year, we are looking for more sustainable brands when we are checking presents off of our shopping list. First on our list is the footwear company Allbirds.
Allbirds not only make their sneakers (available for men and women!) made from sustainable materials like recycled plastic bottles, castor bean oil and recycled cardboard, but the company has committed to going carbon neutral this year. According to their website, "this year, for every tonne of carbon we emit as a business—from the sheep on our farms to the lightbulbs in our headquarters—we’ll pay to take a tonne of carbon out of the atmosphere. It’s almost like we’re giving the planet an IOU, then immediately paying it back." Sounds like a pretty great company to us.
But if Allbirds' ecofriendly commitment isn't enough to interest you, let their fashionable (and super comfortable) shoes do the talking. With multiple styles for both men and women, Allbirds come in primarily two fabrics -- wool and tree (aka lightweight fabric that is made from tree fiber).
Our favorite style would have to be the Tree Runners. Ultra-soft, super breathable and stylish, we'd wear our Tree Runners everywhere from a hiking trail to a lunch date. Plus, they're machine-washable so you can go sockless if you like. Upgrade your worn out white sneakers to a pair of these shoes that you can feel good about purchasing.
