Supreme’s New NBA Collaboration Is for Guys as Confident as J. R. Smith

J. R. Smith is a seasoned veteran in the NBA whose whole entire thing is: Shoot first, ask questions later. From his early years in Denver to his time with the New York Knicks to his current role-player status on the Cleveland Cavaliers, he's always embodied the utmost in confidence—irrational or not—on and off the court. And despite a recent soup-related incident, that over-the-top, go-getter spirit makes him the perfect choice to model Supreme's new collaboration with Nike and the NBA.

This new capsule collection only has four pieces—a jersey, shorts, a jacket, and Nike Air Force 1 sneakers—but like J. R. Smith on the court, they manage to make a serious impact in limited doses. That's because the collection consists of items adorned with multiple NBA team logos, with every team being represented in the collection at least once. Also included, as you might expect, is Supreme's classic box logo, which instantly gives these pieces that re-sellable quality that'll bring people out in droves to buy this collection.

If this design looks familiar—especially in the case of the washed denim warm-up jacket—it's because you lived through the era of "NBA jeans." Just to refresh your memory: NBA jeans were oversize and adorned with NBA team patches, gained popularity in the early '00s (primarily in New York), and quickly became a rap-video staple. They are also kind of unhinged-looking—an allover print where every logo is different is a seriously tricky concept to pull off. But leave it to one of the world's most coveted brands to bring them back, and in a not-half-bad-looking way, too: Supreme's take is true to the spirit of these long-forgotten denim disasters, but the overall vibe is far closer to today's logos-everywhere moment. The collection drops Thursday, and you're gonna need a shooter's touch—along with J.R.'s unearned confidence when pulling up from 40—if you want to get your hands on any of this gear.
