A stray dog named Mom is looking for a parent of her own. The Pit Bull/Labrador Retriever mix, who has spent the last two years cared for by Cypress Lucky Mutt Rescue in Houston, Texas, is seeking her forever home.

Stray Dog Named Mom Seeks Forever Home

Cypress Lucky Mutt Rescue is a Texas-based nonprofit that rescues abandoned and homeless puppies, then places them in temporary housing with volunteers, foster parents, local veterinarians, trainers, and/or boarding facilities until they are able to be adopted.

Mom, who is approximately 7-8 years old, first came to the rescue after she was found wandering in Conroe, Texas. Apparently, someone had shot at her.

“She was skinny, had heartworms, ear and eye infections, and had BB holes in her, plus a stick lodged in the roof of her mouth that was rotting,” Crystal Netardus, president of Cypress Lucky Mutt Rescue, told People.

It is believed that Mom lived much of her life prior to the rescue outdoors. Despite the lack of care, the 80-pound pup is described as a “beautiful girl.”

“She has wonderful house manners and is low maintenance. She is sweet with all people and is good with young kids. She is great with all dogs. She has low energy requirements and would like a daily walk, but it isn’t necessary. She likes to sunbathe in the yard and chew bones,” Netardus said.

But according to Netardus, all those positive traits are up against some pretty big “strikes” against her: she’s a senior pup, a large breed, a Pit Bull mix, and has black fur.

“Any one of those alone is hard to adopt out,” Netardus told People.

Help Mom Find a Home

Nancy Byron has been Mom’s pet foster parent since last May. She says Mom is both house and potty trained, has impeccable manners, and “just has a good soul.” The canine loves affection and treats.

“It’s like you can tell she hasn’t had the greatest life, and so she’s just grateful to be loved,” Byron told People. “She’s so gentle. She even takes her treats gently. She’s just so content with small kindnesses.”
