“Stranger Things” Stars Gaten Matarazzo and Noah Schnapp Reveal the Weirdest Fan Interactions at SAG Awards 2018

"It was a little awkward."

Stranger Things stars Gaten Matarazzo and Noah Schnapp walked the red carpet before the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards, where they got a chance to share some of the strangest fan interactions they've ever had. And it's safe to say that their experiences are definitely pretty odd, but also totally not OK.

Variety got a chance to ask the two stars about any past incidents that came to mind. "I have someone go to shake my hand like this," says Gaten. "And then then shakes my hand and pulls up and licks my hand. And then they just looked at me for like a good 30 seconds. So I'm just 'Errr,' and then they say, 'Can I get a picture,' and I said, 'You licked me,' and they're like, 'Yeah,' as like it's totally normal. I'm like, 'I think I better go. That's not healthy.'"

Noah also had quite the intrusive experience. He says, "I've had a couple. I mean, one time I was in the bathroom like peeing, in a urinal, and the guy just came over. I think he like followed me into the bathroom and he just tapped me on the shoulder. I was like, 'Oh, I'm peeing right now.' Then he asked for a picture. It was a little awkward."

While it looks like the two of them are comfortable enough with these past experiences to talk about them publicly, it also does appear that these were situations that made them uneasy. Of course, it's great that Stranger Things has so many enthusiastic fans, but they also need to remember that actors are people with boundaries too and deserve respect and privacy. Behaviors like licking another person's hand without permission and following someone into the restroom are objectively pretty invasive and intrude onto these guys' personal space. Hopefully, fans in the future will think twice before crossing a line like this.

Fellow Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard has spoken out against treatment from the public in the past. Back in November, he put a call out on Twitter regarding the topic. He tweeted, "Hey everybody! I don't wanna ex-communicate anyone from this fandom, but if you are for real you will not harass my friends, or co-workers. Ya'll know who you are. Why I even have to tweet that, I don't know. Anyone who calls themselves a "fan" and actively goes after someone for literally acting and doing their job is ridiculous. Think b4 ya type boiiii."
