What’s the Story? A Wishbone Movie is in the Works

Another one in the win column for 90s kids!

This week, on the heels of the premiere of The Babysitters Club reboot, millennials learned that yet another vintage series getting a modern makeover.

According to Deadline, Universal Pictures and Mattel Films are working on a movie adaptation of Wishbone, a PBS series from the mid-1990s about the beloved Jack Russell terrier with a nose for literary classics.

Peter Farrelly, the Oscar-winning producer behind Green Book, is producing the live-action feature alongside Mattel Films.

“Our deep library of iconic franchises continues to offer cinematic storytelling opportunities,” executive producer Robbie Brenner, who is overseeing the project for Mattel Films, said in a release. “We’re thrilled to be working with Peter Farrelly, Roy Parker, and Universal to take the beloved dog classic into a new direction with a modern reimagination of the franchise.”

We’ve been waiting 50 years for this!

For two seasons, Wishbone, which aired on PBS from 1996 through 2001, the eponymous dog taught kids about literature by imagining himself as lead characters from classics like Oliver Twist, Romeo and Juliet, The Three Musketeers, and more.

We can’t wait to see which stories (and costumes!) Wishbone brings to life this time.
