Next to a burned turkey or an obnoxious dinner guest, it’s one of the most unwelcome Thanksgiving developments: a big, wintery storm on your travel day.

But that’s exactly what’s happening in much of the U.S. on Wednesday, just as tens of millions of travelers are hitting the roads and the skies for the holiday. A storm is blanketing pretty much the entire East Coast; parts of New England could get up to 10 inches.

Airlines are letting passengers in some of the trouble spots switch to other days without a fee.
