This Stitch Pony Needs to Be Your Next ~Lewk~

From Cosmopolitan

Now that spring is here (and summer is quickly approaching!), it’s time to reconsider your beauty game. IDK about you, but for me, warm weather means more fun. I'm talking colorful eyeliner, lightweight slip dresses, and a hair accessory or three. That's why this week on The Braid Up, we’re giving you a ponytail that doesn’t look like you just left the gym. And not only is this stitch butterfly ponytail super cute, but it also keeps your hair off your neck during those hot and humid days. Stasha Harris, our resident braid expert, is passing the mic off to Knolesha Hammary, New Jersey-based hairstylist, so check out the video above to see her bring this look to life.

Now that you're ready to recreate this stitch pony, here are some tips, tricks, and product recs to keep in mind.

1. Don’t forget the edge control. Seriously, your braided styles aren’t complete without it. It’s a must-have if you want your sleek parts and laid baby hairs. Use a long-lasting and lightweight edge control that won’t leave white flakes behind, like one of the four below.

2. Play around with texture. Look closely and you’ll notice that this ponytail has three different types of braids—cool, right? Braid the first section about a third of the way down the ponytail, then wrap a rubber band around the hair to secure and separate it from the rest of the styles. Repeat this step until you reach the end of the third section.

3. Snap on hair clips. Hair accessories add some flair to your look while also hiding the rubber bands in your ponytail. If the ones in the video aren’t your vibe, feel free to switch it up—you want the accessories to feel on brand for you.

4. Spray on some mousse. Put the finishing touches on your look by working a mousse into your braids—it'll set the hairstyle and add some nice shine.
