Be Still our Southern Hearts! A Designing Women Play Debuts This Summer
Designing Women is headed to the stage!
The sitcom about the quick-talking employees of an Atlanta design firm that delighted viewers from 1986 to 1993 has been reimagined as a stage play, The New York Times reports.
The play is the brainchild of the creator of the original television series, Linda Bloodworth-Thomason. Also called Designing Women, it will reportedly bring Suzanne, Julia, Charlene, and Mary Jo "roughly the same age as we last saw them," into the present day.
“What I really wanted to do was take those women as we last saw them and set them down right now,” Bloodworth-Thomason told the Times. “They’ll have the same history, be the same people, have the same attitudes, the same philosophies,” she added, “but they’ll be talking about #MeToo and the Kardashians, and Donald Trump, and all that’s going on right now.”

Designing Women (the play) is set to premiere this summer at TheaterSquared in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
After its premiere in Fayetteville, the production will transfer to Alabama Shakespeare Festival and Dallas Theater Center. It will run from August 12 through September 13.
