Steve Lacy is clearly knowledgeable when it comes to fashion. He’s become a runway darling, walking at Virgil Abloh’s first Louis Vuitton menswear show in Paris last year and then more recently at No Sesso’s New York Fashion Week debut, and the Internet guitarist can pull off an oversize Balenciaga suit like no other. He’ll sometimes reach for more underground brands, as he did when he wore green flame-printed vinyl pants from German brand GmbH while on tour (which he paired with Margiela tabi boots, no less), but overall, it seems safe to say that he’s more into high-fashion than a streetwear fanatic.

It comes as a bit of a surprise, then, that Lacy stars in Los Angeles-based streetwear brand FTP’s (it stands for Fuck the Population) newest lookbook. The brainchild of Los Angeles-born designer Zac Clark, FTP’s spirit is deeply rooted in streetwear’s early, subversive history—the cult favorite brand has made T-shirts that reference Columbine and they’ve uploaded their campaigns to Pornhub. Lacy’s appearance is a bit more conventional—he wears a black and gray set, bucket hat included, printed with the brand’s acronym and drawings of toy guns—but it’s still notable as his first official foray into streetwear. Lacy looks like he can handle a skateboard just as well as he can take on Fashion Week’s buzziest runways.
