Staud Resort 2022

“It’s a very buy now, wear now collection, but also ‘buy now, where now’ in terms of wherever you’re going and want to be. It’s not a very weather-specific collection,” designer Sarah Staudinger said over Zoom.

For resort, the designer emphasized the importance of continuing to mix modern, technical fabrics with sleek elements, juxtaposed with natural materials. For instance, raffia pockets and collars (also seen mixed into handbags and footwear), basket weave-inspired knits, contrasting crochet trim and leather accents on technical nylon separates. These utilitarian-inspired silhouettes and details (pockets, zippers) fashionably nodded to spending time outdoors while a super bloom poppy print and cheeky little three-piece polar fleece set with nylon trim and “bad surfer tattoo” turtle motifs swimming across the separates with rhinestone “surfer sandals” nodded to the designer’s California home.

“We tried to touch on everything…there’s something for everybody. From a camping trip to a black-tie moment; from the mountains to the beach, there’s something for everybody, and all the moments in between.”

The look: True to the Staud DNA, the collection offered refreshing playful fashions for the girl who’s ready for an adventure.

Quote of note: “The collection is really about adventure time. Doing things, getting out there, and this reconnection and appreciation for life and all of its earthly delights. Our girl this season, she’s ready to go, optimistic and she’s ‘on the bus,’ as we like to say.”

Key pieces: Utilitarian-inspired separates: denim, a short cargo dress, a grosgrain maxiskirt with large pockets and matching rhinestone-trimmed jersey tube top or lightly quilted white skirt set. Basket-weave-inspired knit dresses and two-piece sets; spacedye, colorful knits; two full-length, poppy-print emblazoned fluid organza gowns. In accessories, an abundance of newness, such as sleek leather boots (thigh-high and slightly scrunched or knee-high with zippers down the front), new ‘acute’ shoulder bags, strappy sandals and hobo bags with wrapped handles.

The takeaway: Wherever the Staud girl is adventuring, she’s doing so in versatile, cool style.
