The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported the recall, which was issued voluntarily by Nestlé USA, on Mar. 21st. Read on for more details, including exactly which products the recall includes and what to do if you’ve purchased them.

Starbucks Mug Recall

According to Nestlé USA, the ceramic mugs with metallic coating and Starbucks branding have been recalled after multiple customers faced burns and cuts from overheating mugs. More than 440,000 mugs are included in this recall, all of which were sold as part of gift sets from the 2023 holiday season between November 2023 and January 2024. Nestlé USA has emphasized that only the mugs in the gift sets are included in the recall, not any other Starbucks branded mugs.

The following gift sets include the recalled mugs:

  • Starbucks Holiday Gift Set with 2 Mugs (11 oz.); sold at Target

  • Starbucks Classic Hot Cocoa and Ceramic Mug (16oz.); sold at Walmart & Nexcom

  • Starbucks Peppermint and Classic Hot Cocoa Ceramic Mug (16oz.); sold at Target

  • Starbucks Holiday Blend Coffee and Mug (16oz.); sold at Walmart & Nexcom

The recall was initiated after several reports from customers. There have been 12 incidents reported of the mugs in these gift sets overheating or breaking, which has resulted in 10 injuries. Nestlé USA recommends immediately ceasing the use of these mugs if you own one. You can also return the recalled mugs for a full refund.

"The quality, safety and integrity of Nestlé USA products remain our number one priority. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this action represents to both our consumers and retail customers," the company said in its statement.
