Even though many people refuse to start celebrating Christmas until after Thanksgiving, we take our cue from Starbucks, meaning that when they put their holiday drinks back on the menu, we go all in on the holiday spirit. This year, that date is Nov. 6, so prepare to start your day being jolly and merry.

The Peppermint Mocha (which is back for its 18th year), Toasted White Chocolate Mocha, Caramel Brulée Latte, Chestnut Praline Latte, and Eggnog Latte, aka your five favorite festive beverages, are all back for the 2020 holiday season. To celebrate the limited-edition menu, Starbucks will be giving out free collectible red holiday cups — this year, they have an ugly Christmas sweater design — to anyone who orders a handcrafted holiday beverage on Nov. 6 at participating U.S. locations. This is the third year the company is providing the free reusable cups, so you’ll want to go first thing in the morning to guarantee that they don’t run out.

No seasonal drink is complete without a season treat, so Starbucks is bringing back some of your favorite sweets. The bakery case will be filled with the returning Sugar Plum Danish, Cranberry Bliss Bar, Snowman Cookie, and Snowman Cake Pop. There’s also a new Cranberry Orange Scone, made of a flaky, buttermilk scone with crème fraiche, dried cranberries, and orange zest, and drizzled with vanilla icing, that will rev up those holiday taste buds!

One of the things that Starbucks customers look forward to the most during this time of year is the “red cup” designs. In 2019, they had bold patterns and, the year before that, they were more simple and delicate. For 2020, the four new cups — Ribbon, Dot, Sparkle, and Brand Wrap — take on striped and ornament designs.

  • Ribbon: The striped cup has bands of Starbucks greens, red, and white, and have familiar crown, tail, and scale shapes. The ugly sweater-like design is the same one you’ll find on the free collectible red holiday cup!

  • Dot: The Starbucks house green cup is punctuated with red and green polka dots, and is wrapped with the “carry the merry” saying.

  • Brand Wrap: The modern design features bold bands of red and greens that feature the Starbucks wordmark

  • Sparkle: The red cup gives vintage vibes with cutout shapes that look like ornaments. They’re the same shapes you’ll find in white on Starbucks’ cold beverage cups!

We know this is a lot of info coming all at once, so allow us break it down for you: Go to Starbucks first thing on Nov. 6, choose a holiday drink (in hot or iced!), add a holiday bite to your order, get your free reusable cup, and ta-da! You’re officially in the Christmas spirit.
