Disney+'s Star Wars spinoff show The Mandalorian has been described by some as essentially Side Quest: The Series, due to the seemingly never-ending detours that the titular figure continues to take which distract him from his quest of reuniting The Child (a.k.a. Baby Yoda) with his people. But it looks like the Jedi storyline, which so far has existed only on the fringes of the show, is about to step up a notch.

With each new episode of the second season finding new ways to weave the narrative into the wider Star Wars mythos, it's unsurprising that viewers are expecting some of their favorite characters to make an appearance. It's already been confirmed that Ahsoka Tano from the Clone Wars animated series will be showing up later this season. And now fans are starting to speculate that Mace Windu, the Jedi Master played by Samuel L. Jackson in the prequel trilogy, could also be waiting in the wings.

The last time Mace Windu was seen on-screen was in Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, where he was propelled out of a window by Palpatine. And according to a new video on the Star Wars Theory YouTube channel, while that moment could be interpreted as signaling the character's demise, it's also plausible that he survived. Windu had previously demonstrated that Jedi are capable of falling from great heights and landing on their feet, and let's be honest: in a science fiction universe, if the audience doesn't see a body, it's pretty likely that the character is not dead.

Revenge of the Sith also showed just how powerful Windu was, depicting him going toe-to-toe with the Emperor and winning their lightsaber duel fairly. Of course, that battle ended with Windu losing a hand and getting burned up by Palpatine's lightning (pretty standard for a fight scene in Star Wars), but this could just mean that Windu ended up going into hiding, concealing his scarred face and working against the Empire from the shadows. Perhaps while under a Mandalorian's helmet?
