During Saturday’s game between the St. Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks, there was an unfortunate collision behind the net during the second period.

Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist skated hard towards a loose puck and jumped up into Ducks netminder John Gibson, striking his head.

He was handed a charging penalty initially, then was given a roughing call during the post-hit scrum.

With that punishment in mind, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced on Sunday that Sundqvist will be getting the maximum allowable fine for his actions.

St. Louis’ Oskar Sundqvist has been fined $7,392.47, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Charging Anaheim’s John Gibson.

Even with the extra protection that goaltenders usually receive, Sundqvist’s leap into Gibson’s upper-body with the goaltender already playing the puck was deserving of some extra discipline outside of the game.

Sundqvist has three goals and seven points through 21 games played this season.
