The Space Jam: A New Legacy Trailer Features Anyone Who Has Ever Been in a Warner Brothers Movie

Well, the first trailer for Space Jam: A New Legacy finally arrived on Saturday, and all I can say is — I miss the old Space Jam. Not to show my age, but what the VHS-tape is going on in this trailer? Why are there robots? Where is Mugsy Bogues? Is LeBron James stuck inside The Matrix? If he is, Keanu Reeves better get a cameo.

Especially because everyone else seems to be getting one. In addition to Don Cheadle and LeBron James, the film also appears to feature the cast of Scooby Doo, the Flintstones, King Kong, the Clockwork Orange guys, and what appears to be someone dressed up as Jim Carrey from The Mask. Zendaya is in the movie too. Per Variety, she is the voice of Lola Bunny, Bugs Bunny’s on-again, off-again girlfriend.

If that seems like a chaotic cast of randomly assorted characters, consider the plot of the film: While touring Warner Brothers studios with his son, LeBron James gets sucked inside the studio’s servers and travels through various Warner Brothers films to assemble a team of underdogs for a basketball game that he must win in order to see his son again. And who might be LeBron’s teammates, you ask? Well, according to this list, Superman, Gandolf, King Kong, and Iron Giant are all up for a coveted spot on King James’s team. Gosh, let’s sure hope Gandalf can carry his weight. After all, he’s only a WIZARD.

Fans of both basketball and movies were quick to point out that, compared to the team Michael Jordan had in the original Space Jam, LeBron’s will most likely be stacked. Jordan was working with a middle-aged Bill Murray and Newman from Seinfeld. LeBron, I repeat, has a WIZARD.

But perhaps the most devastating thing about the new Space Jam is that in the midst of all the unnecessary upgrades, somebody bulldozed over the most precious and peaceful corner of the internet. The original spacejam.com was a relaxing relic from an era when technology hadn’t evolved past MS-Word 94 and all of us were still holding onto our 3.5 floppy disks. It was a reminder of what life was like before “doomscrolling” was a term people actually used. And sure, you can still get to it by going to spacejam.com/1996, but as Marvin Gaye once wisely sang, “ain’t nothing like the real thing.”
