The Indiana Pacers are releasing veteran forward Damien Wilkins ahead of his contract guarantee date this week, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Wilkins, 37, made the Pacers’ roster out of training camp this season after having not played in the NBA since 2013. He started for the Pacers in Saturday night’s blowout victory over the Chicago Bulls, scoring 11 points.

For the Pacers, waiving Wilkins clears a roster spot and gives them flexibility over the next several weeks. Indiana (20-19) currently holds the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference and has star guard Victor Oladipo back in the lineup after he missed four games with a sore knee.

Wilkins has played 10 NBA seasons, including stops with the Sonics, Thunder, Timberwolves, Hawks, Pistons and 76ers.
