Sources: Brandan Wright to sign with Rockets after completing buyout

After he completes a contract buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies, center Brandan Wright is planning to sign with the Houston Rockets for the remainder of the season, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Wright was finalizing a buyout with the Grizzlies on Friday night, with the Rockets emerging as the leaders once he clears waivers, league sources said. Wright will provide depth at center, joining Clint Capela and Nene on the Rockets, who are contenders in the Western Conference.

Wright, an athletic and active 6-foot-10 center, has averaged five points and 3.4 rebounds in 27 games this season. The Grizzlies are expected to increase the roles of promising young center Deyonta Davis and 2017 second-round pick Ivan Rabb in the second half of the season.

Wright, 30, has played 10 NBA seasons, serving as a reliable frontcourt presence. He has averaged seven points and 3.6 rebounds for his career.
