Beyoncé and Meghan Markle met yesterday at The Lion King premiere in London, and it was captured in photo and film, and then swiftly overanalyzed by everyone. Some outlets are now running stories about how Beyoncé broke royal protocol. Entertainment Tonight even talked to a source who said that yes, Bey did break the rules—and not because she and Meghan hugged or anything.
Beyoncé broke royal protocol, according to Entertainment Tonight's source, because she and Jay-Z arrived later than Meghan and Prince Harry.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex did walk the red carpet before Beyoncé and Jay-Z got to the premiere, but Beyoncé and Jay-Z were right behind them. (And the carpet had to be completely cleared for security reasons before Meghan and Harry arrived; that could be part of the reason that Bey and Jay-Z walked after.)
The source went on to claim that Beyoncé and Jay-Z "completely upstaged" Meghan and Harry because they got bigger cheers from the fans at the premiere. That's...not really Beyoncé and Jay-Z's fault.
Beyoncé is global music royalty; she has earned the right to not be attacked based off of arbitrary (and classist) rules. Her walking a busy red carpet after it was cleared for Meghan and Harry, whom she later described as "so sweet," isn't rude. That's just security and logistics.
When people try to nitpick and find "royal protocol" breaches with occasions like this, it distracts from the real story: Meghan and Beyoncé met, you guys!!! Who cares who arrived first?
