Sounds Like We Can Count on More Horrifying 'Star Wars' CGI Acting

Anyone remember when The Book of Boba Fett introduced CGI Luke Skywalker, who was an upgraded version of the CGI Luke Skywalker we met in The Mandalorian? Probably so. It's not something you forget, seeing Mark Hamill, an unsuspecting body double, and various acts of CGI brushstrokes Frankensteined into a new actor.
When The Book of Boba Fett brought CGI Luke Skywalker into the mix, we expressed some serious concern over the human-robot smoothie recipes being cooked up at LucasFilm. Kathleen Kennedy, the president of the company, heard our cries, and said, "Sorry!" No, She didn't apologize. Quite the opposite. In Vanity Fair's new Star Wars cover story, Kennedy seemingly got to talking about the underwhelming box office return from 2018's Solo, which dared to employ real-life actors Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover as Han Solo and Lando Calrissian, respectively. “There should be moments along the way when you learn things,” Kennedy told Vanity Fair. “Now it does seem so abundantly clear that we can’t do that.”
Yikes. Abundantly clear, really? Ehrenreich and Glover were never going to replicate the lightning-in-a-bottle magic that Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams did back in the '80s. But they did give us solid performances with impossible expectations pushed onto them. If the recent embrace of Hayden Christensen is telling us anything, it's that certain pockets of Star Wars fans can get so loud in the aftermath of a new release, that it seemingly sways the popular opinion. Because of that, it sounds like new, deserving talent will never get the opportunity to take on an iconic Hollywood role, as Ehrenreich and Glover were able to. Instead, all signs point to the CGI ghosts of Star Wars past haunting us for as long as people are willing to follow Star Wars stories. That's a shame.
