Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are still in the throes of a tumultuous divorce and custody battle. Perhaps the most disconcerting part of the saga was when Turner sued Jonas in Sept. 2023 for “wrongfully retaining” their daughters — Willa, 3 and Delphine, 1.

The Game of Thrones star alleged that Jonas was withholding their daughters’ passports and not letting them return to England. And so she filed a complaint that called for  “the immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained.”

Jonas released a statement soon after, claiming that he had met with Turner recently and they had a “cordial meeting.”

“Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had reached an understanding that they would work together towards an amicable co-parenting setup… [Less than 24 hours later] Sophie advised that she wanted to take the children permanently to the UK. Thereafter, she demanded via this filing that Joe hand over the children’s passports so that she could take them out of the country immediately.”

In the statement, the singer said he is “seeking shared parenting” and is OK with the kids being raised in both the U.S. and the UK. He did note, though, that his girls “have spent the vast majority of their lives in the U.S.”

“Joe has already disavowed any and all statements purportedly made on his behalf that were disparaging of Sophie,” the statement continued. “They were made without his approval and are not consistent with his views. His wish is that Sophie reconsider her harsh legal position and move forward in a more constructive and private manner. His only concern is the well-being of his children,” the statement.

Now, according to court documents obtained by People, Turner has dropped the “wrongful retention” claims and a judge has agreed to dismiss the filing. This will likely put Jonas in a better standing while they continue to work out their permanent custody arrangement. Not having the word “abduction” associated with your name can certainly do that.

Back in September, the two reached a temporary custody agreement that involved their girls staying in New York City. A few weeks later, they reached a temporary custody agreement that added Turner’s home country to the mix.

“After a productive and successful mediation, we have agreed that the children will spend time equally in loving homes in both the U.S. and the UK,” the former couple said in a statement in October. “We look forward to being great co-parents.”
