On Thursday night, it was confirmed that Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, the wife of Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, was diagnosed with COVID-19.
The prime minister said her symptoms remain mild, but she is “following medical advice” and will remain in quarantine “for the time being.”
Earlier Thursday, the Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement that Sophie Grégoire Trudeau had recently begun “exhibiting mild flu-like symptoms including a low fever late last night” after coming home from a ‘We Day’ speaking engagement in the U.K.
The prime minister is currently not experiencing any symptoms but will remain in self-isolation for 14 days.
“I have no symptoms and I’m feeling good,” the prime minister said on Friday. “It was explained to me that as long as I do not show any symptoms at all, there is no value in having me tested,” he added.
Following the announcement of Grégoire Trudeau’s diagnosis, Canadians took to social media to send their well-wishes to the Trudeau family.
You're doing an amazing job in this health crisis. Thank you for following the evidence based directions of the public health experts & scientists, to protect Canadians. Hope Sophie gets well soon.👍

But arguments began to erupt online as people’s personal views of the prime minister led individuals to post negative comments about the Trudeaus, following the announcement that Grégoire Trudeau is a victim of COVID-19.
sorry but a case of the flu doesn’t erase the distrust & lack of respect millions have for the PM. the trudeaus have devoted their adult life to furthering their own brand. my goodness SMH.

Hmmm, on global too. Guess all that money and privilege does not make one bullet proof. However, I expect she will get stellar care while the rest of get whatever is left over.🤐

But several Canadians were very quick to call out these “disgusting” comments.
If you're celebrating Sophie Trudeau having Covid19, you are a garbage bag with legs. Find a dumpster and climb in, you assholes.#cdnpoli #CoronaVirusCanada #Covid_19

I struggle with this as the feeling is apparently not mutual, considering Trudeau's actions during his Prime Ministership.

The comments I’ve read here from people expressing joy that the virus has reached the Trudeau household Is disgusting. Canadians are better than that. There’s a time to put sports and politics aside. This is one them.

In addition to the prime minister working from self-isolation, the House of Commons adjourned Friday in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at Parliament Hill. MPs will not return to the House of Commons until April 20.
