Solid Homme Men’s Fall 2021

Titling her fall collection “New Olds,” designer Woo Young Mi immediately set the tone for her lineup, which was presented for the first time at Milan Fashion Week with a video depicting a runway show hosted in an industrial space. The designer, who is also the founder and creative director of men’s wear label Wooyoungmi, delivered a collection centered on re-editions of signature styles she developed during her 30-year career in fashion. Despite the archival approach, the result felt contemporary and never nostalgic, highlighting the modernity of Young Mi’s design

Reflecting a major trend of the season, the collection balanced indoor and outdoor elements. If cozy knits, elevated tracksuits and comfortable silhouettes echoed the intimacy of the domestic life, the protective outerwear, including parkas with multiple pockets and warm puffers, as well as the sartorial suits, felt designed to survive the urban jungle in style.

Young Mi employed a range of materials, spanning from the leather she used for ’80s bomber jackets to the felt of streamlined jackets and the soft corduroy of a puffer that mixed with slouchy pants and a bucket hat, the latter bringing to mind a Run DMC video clip from the ’90s.

The abundance of winter whites, beige and light gray was counterbalanced by dark tones and lively pops of turquoise, strawberry red and yellow.

While being an established brand in its country of origin, South Korea, Solid Homme will be a pleasant discovery for international retailers aiming to bring diversity and novelty to their store’s offering.
