Sofia Richie is expecting her first child! The 25-year-old model, daughter of Lionel Richie and sister of the Nicole Richie, announced the exciting news during an interview with “Vogue.

She also knows the baby’s sex, and in an extremely rare move for anyone as famous as she is, she’s sharing the news with the world—she’s going to have a little girl.

“She’s growing pretty fast, so [the due date] is a bit up in the air,” she tells the magazine. “I love the YouTubes and the TikToks—even before I was talking about getting pregnant—of gender reveals, so we had our OB text my assistant Becca [our baby’s gender], and we bought two party poppers: one blue, one pink.”

“She left out the one with the correct color inside, and Elliot and I popped it together,” she continues. “We both really thought it was a boy, so it was a true shock. My dream in life is to have a daughter [though], and Elliot is really excited for a girl too.”

This baby will the the first for Richie and her husband, CEO and founder of the 10K Projects record label, Elliot Grainge. Despite sharing the exciting news with Vogue and the world of social media, Richie told “Town & Country” last fall she’s cautious of how much she shares about her life and her marriage publicly.

“We don’t live out our whole lives on Instagram. We know when to turn it off,” she explained.

While she and Grainge didn’t wait to tell their families the happy news, they did decide to wait to tell the world until they were comfortable.

“Pregnancy is really scary and you want to protect that space,” she says. “I didn’t realize there are so many milestones you have to hit and so many tests you have to take. For me, it was really important to protect our mental health and our space as a couple.”

She tells Vogue she’s in the final weeks of her pregnancy, and, like any expectant mom, she’s had some emotional rollercoaster moments.

“I was having a really hard time [one week],” she says. “I was having a cry week. I would cry at the wall paint. I would cry about anything you could cry about. But you just have to sit back and just be in awe, and know that everything you’re going through is completely normal and all of the ups and downs are normal. It’s made me feel better knowing that other people have gone through the emotional ups and downs. That was comforting for me.”
