The 2019 sneaker trend that fashionable folks are loving

Fashion guru Andrea Linett, author of The Cool Factor, and style blog I Want to Be Her! makes a case for sneakers—going so far as to suggest we replace our beloved flats with comfy-chic sport shoes (but only in black).

Ask anyone who knows me, and they’ll tell you I’m a mid-to high-heel person. But recently, something shifted. Maybe because everywhere I look—from the runway to the red carpet, from the streets of New York to the Starbucks of LA—I’m spotting cute black sneakers. And it’s like I’m seeing them for the first time in my life.

In leather or canvas, these dark, understated kicks feel fresh and current, whether on attendees at New York Fashion Week or on out-for-errands celebs like Gwen Stefani and Gigi Hadid. Now I’m all about black sneakers.

Depending on which style you choose, they can replace pumps or flats with everything from menswear trousers to flowy floral dresses. I like traditional skater shoes with classic jeans and cute sweats—and am super into sweet little slip-ons with a sundress, shorts, or cropped pants. The best part is that these shoes scream “fashion” at the same time they whisper “comfort.” Win, win!

So give your look that extra kick, and shop my favorite stylish and and comfy black sneakers:

The pretty little frill keeps these slip-ons from feeling too basic.

Rave review: “I normally wear a 10.5, but I purchased the size 11, and they fit like a dream. Also very comfortable. I have one foot that is just a tad wider and shorter than the other, but what makes these shoes so very exceptional are the elastic gores on either side of both shoes. I would buy again in a heartbeat!”
