Smart fan wears 'Don't Boo Stanton' shirt to Yankee Stadium

Sometime in the near future — maybe tomorrow, maybe next week — Giancarlo Stanton is going to make some adjustments at the plate and start smashing home runs in New York the same way he did in Miami.

Simply put, Stanton is too good of a hitter not to and he’s adjusted his approach at the plate enough times in the past to believe he’ll do it again.

New York Yankees fans, however, have never proven themselves to be a patient bunch. Through the Yankees’ first month of the season, Stanton has been booed at home more than he’s been celebrated.

Part of it has to do with Stanton racking up 29 strikeouts on four home runs through April. Part of it has to do with his $325 million contract. All of the reasons are foolish this early in the season. Fortunately for Stanton, he has at least one believer in the stands at Yankee Stadium.

Take a look at the rarest of sights in sports seated behind the plate at the Yankees-Blue Jays game on Saturday. We present to you a level-headed fan:

Yes, that’s a very bright “Don’t Boo Stanton” shirt. This courageous fan deserves all of the high-fives in The Bronx, though we’ll assume he didn’t receive many. In an era of hot takes and snap judgements, rendering the most high-profile offseason acquisition a bust less than a quarter of the way through the regular season is somehow par for the course.

In the not-to-distant future, we can imagine this fan purchasing tickets for the outfield bleachers, where he can bask in the glory of Stanton’s power at the plate and catch a few home runs. Until then, his fellow Yankees fans need him and his bright yellow shirt to spread this simple message.

Just because Stanton isn’t cranking out homers in an unseasonably cold April doesn’t mean he won’t be a New York hero come June and July.
