Small Business Spotlight: Little Celebrations finds its niche in Boston area originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
Cecilia Chung was planning her friend's baby shower in Texas when she discovered a company that provided children-sized tables and chairs for events.
That discovery helped Chung, who lives in the Boston area, launch her own small business.
"I was like, 'Wow, this is such a neat idea,' " Chung said in an interview with NBC Sports Boston. "And I did my research and saw that no one in New England or Massachusetts has a rental business geared toward children's furniture. So, I was like, 'Let me try to fill this gap here in this industry.' "
The result was Little Celebrations Children's Event Rentals, which rents out children's tables, chairs and other furniture for use at events like weddings, baby showers and more.
"The kids actually feel special when they walk into the space," Chung said. "They're like, 'Wow, I have an area just for me.'
"They love it because it's upscale, so the kids feel like, 'I'm fancy coming here.' "
Chung received a grant from the Comcast RISE program to help get her business off the ground, as a successful Black businesswoman, she's now looking to pay it forward.
"I find my purpose to help other entrepreneurs and women of color and people of color just getting more of their things together," Chung said.
"I made it my way to start mentoring and taking certain women who I know in this industry to walk them through the application process: how can I help more people and let them know of the things available. Because a lot of times things just slip by the wayside."
