Update: June 15, 2020

Last month, Skittles announced that in honor of Pride Month they'd be getting rid of their iconic colorful candies. Packs of Skittles would be branded with all new gray packaging to shoutout the LGBTQ+ community and send the message that only one rainbow was important during this time of year. Now, the creative pride-themed candies are out in stores.

As promised, these Skittles come in a gray bag and are gray in color. Despite lacking the signature red, purple, orange, green, and yellow hues, the flavors are all the same. This does mean it will be harder to pick out your favorite flavors (strawberry and grape) but is a fun way to eat some candy for a good cause. For each bag purchased, Skittles will donate $1 to GLAAD up to $100,000. A medium stand-up bag was purchased at Walmart by @SnackBetch, and they can also be found at CVS locations nationwide.

In honor of Pride Month this year, Skittles is giving up its signature rainbow. Yes, it’s true! Who ever thought they’d see the day this happened? Skittles is ditching its iconic, colorful branding in favor of gray candies to show its support of the LGBTQ+ community and signify that only one rainbow matters during the month of June.

As part of Skittles’s Give the Rainbow campaign, the new gray candies fittingly come in dull, gray packaging. Although you can’t see the rainbow, you’ll still be able to taste it. The candies will feature the original five fruity flavors including strawberry, orange, grape, green apple, and lemon. Now through the end of June, the Skittles will be available for purchase in sharing packs for $1.79 and medium stand-up pouches for $2.59 at CVS and some Walmart locations nationwide.

This is the first time the gray candies have hit the United States. In previous years, Skittles released the packs in Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom. As part of the launch in the U.S., the brand is partnering with the LGBTQ+ media advocacy group GLAAD. For every pack of colorless skittles sold, $1 will be donated to the group up to $100,000.

A lot of brands typically add the colors of the rainbow to their products to celebrate Pride month. Seeing as Skittles can't really do more with its vibrant colors than it already has, the removal of them is a pretty crafty work-around.
