The red carpet is currently experiencing a menswear revolution, but the buzz has primarily focused on Hollywood’s younger stars. Sure, millennials and Gen-Zers like Ezra Miller, Chadwick Boseman, and Timothée Chalamet can pull off inventive suiting, skirts, and just about anything else. Still, youth isn’t a prerequisite for risk-taking fashion. At last night’s Los Angeles premiere of Charlie’s Angels, Sir Patrick Stewart gave the kids a lesson in runway relevance, arriving at the Regency Theater in a stylized look from Kim Jones’s Fall 2019 Dior Men collection.

The 79-year-old star of Star Trek: The Next Generation and the X-Men movies, Stewart has always been well-dressed, but he usually sticks to the classics. Perfectly tailored suits or understated blazers have comprised the bulk of his premiere and press tour wardrobe, but for the relaunch of the Angels franchise only a special suit would do. A remixed take on the traditional tux, the Dior design featured a sweeping sash and space-age technical cotton. Worn with flair—would you expect anything less from Captain Jean-Luc Picard?—as he posed next to co-stars Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska, the tuxedo made Stewart the evening’s best-dressed man and a shining example of ageless style. After all, why should twentysomethings have all the fun?
