Fans most likely know Scott Disick from Keeping Up With the Kardashians, where he's had a recurring role as Kourtney's ex-husband and father of her three children. Now, the star is set to show off a different side in FlipIt Like Disick, a new E! show that sees him—you guessed it—flipping houses. But Disick isn't the only one sharing a new side of himself in the show (which premieres August 4th); to help in his renovating endeavors, he's enlisted a group of friends with varying talents, including singer and actress-turned-designer Willa Ford of WFord Interiors. Ford has an illustrious music career, spanning back to a debut single in 1999, which was quickly followed by a stint as opener for the Backstreet Boys on their 2000 tour. Now, though, she's traded microphones for floorplans, and is excited to show off her new career on Flip It Like Disick. We caught up with the multi-hyphenate ahead of the premiere to hear more about her career transition, style, and what to expect from the new show.

She's always loved design...despite her surroundings.

Though singing was an earlier focus, Ford tells House Beautiful that "from a young age, I always loved design." Despite the fact that, she reveals, "I didn’t come from a design family. I come from a very country family; my dad is a farmer. It’s definitely a simpler life, and my mom was never really into that stuff. It drove me crazy around the house—we’d put red Solo cups in the dishwasher!" Ford took it upon herself to rearrange furniture and redo her bedroom.

She began designing homes for friends.

After Ford's friends began commenting on the interiors she did for herself, she started taking on their homes. "Before you know it, I’d turned it into a full-fledged business and had stopped acting altogether," says the designer. "I loved creating these spaces for people and I recognized, oh, this is a calling. This is something I’m really good at and that I really want to do."

She has a three-step guide to creating a home.

"There are three things we ask a client," Ford divulges. "First, I ask for their dream home. That's where I start, then I look at what they bought, and finally, I ask about the function of the home. If I have those three things, I can get pretty close to being on the nose pretty soon."

She doesn't have one style.

"I think that’s so interesting when people say, 'I have this specific style, and it’s this," Ford confesses. "Every space is created so differently...how could one style suit all of your clients? You can lean a certain way and guide them, but it’s my job to make their home their home, not my home."

Flip It Like Disick will show the nitty-gritty of renovation.

The show is constructed as a docu-series, following one long flip that takes up the entire season, with episodes that pepper in different, smaller projects. "What I love about it is that we don't water things down," says the designer. "You see how long it takes, the struggles that are involved. A lot of shows, it’s in an episode, which is not how it goes. People think, 'I’m going to buy and redo the home,' and they’re a year and a half in saying, 'that is not what I saw on TV.'"

Her favorite space is a music room for a celeb client.

A standout of the series was getting to work on a studio space for Steve Aoki. "I won't give too much away, but Scott came to me with a concept, and from there we designed something I'm proud of—it’s something I don't think anyone else has seen or done," says Ford. Other celebrity projects featured on the show include a playhouse for Disick's own children with Kourtney Kardashian.

She has a message for viewers.

When asked what she hopes viewers take away from the show, Ford says "I hope people recognize that no matter where you are in your world, if there's something you love and you want to make a pivot, you can," she says, before adding: "but not without insane work ethic!"

Flip It Like Disick premieres on E! August 4th at 10/9 Central.
