Singapore's Bird Paradise in Mandai Wildlife Reserve to open 8 May
Eight large walk-through aviaries at 17 hectare Bird Paradise and two new avian presentations
SINGAPORE - Exciting news for all you bird lovers out there! Fans of Jurong Bird Park can look forward to the opening of Singapore's new Bird Paradise and ungated Mandai Wildlife West on 8 May.
The opening is a follow up to the closure of Jurong Bird Park earlier this year on 3 January.
What to look out for at Bird Paradise
The new 17-hectare park will be home to 3,500 birds from 400 different species, allowing visitors to explore eight large walk-through aviaries, and get up close and personal with some of the world's most threatened species like the Philippine Eagles, Negros Bleeding-heart Doves, and Black-winged Mynas.
The park is also proud to house the world's largest population of Hornbills under human care. And if that's not enough to get to flock to the new bird attraction, the Sky Amphitheatre will be premiering two new avian presentations called "Predators on Wings" and "Wings of the World."
Crowd favourite feeding sessions are also making a comeback with new varieties of birds to feed such as Starlings, African Hornbills, and Barbets, Pelicans, and Lories. Proceeds from these sessions will go towards Mandai Wildlife Group’s conservation efforts.
Besides the birds, the park will also offer a walking Bird Discovery Tour and the Avian Care Backstage Pass, which grants guests a behind-the-scenes look at how vets and wildlife nutritionists care for park birds at the Avian Healthcare and Research Centre.
Additional behind-the-scenes tours will be launched through the year.
“Our animal care team and veterinarians have been carrying out the mammoth task of moving more than 3,000 birds from Jurong to the Mandai Wildlife Reserve," said Mandai Wildlife Group’s group chief executive Mike Barclay.
"This ‘great migration’ was a first-time experience for both our birds and employees, and I am glad to share that they are all settling in well at their new home."
Highlights of Mandai Wildlife West
Mandai Wildlife West will serve as the main arrival area for visitors to Bird Paradise and the upcoming Rainforest Wild. There, visitors will bypass a10m-tall waterfall sculpted after Indonesia’s Madakaripura waterfall.
Kids will also have a blast at two new anchor play areas, namely Pangolin Adventure and Pangolin Hideout. These names were inspired by the Sunda Pangolin, a native Singapore species.
Hungry guests can look forward to an array of food and beverage options including Luke’s Lobster, Leckerbaer, Mr Holmes Bakehouse and a gelato boutique and sandwich bar from Birds of Paradise.
The park will also offer fast food and quick bites from tenants such as A&W, western restaurant Collin’s, Han’s, Pavilion Banana Leaf, Old Chang Kee, Starbucks and Cheers.
Ticket prices
Discounted tickets during the soft opening period will be available from 8-26 May at a special rate of $38 for adults, $23 for children (aged 3 to 12 years old) and $20 for senior citizens.
Full price tickets at $48 for an adult and $33 for a child will start from 27 May. Ticket prices for seniors will remain at $20.
