Chances are, you've heard someone say something like "I'm being so bad" while indulging in a dessert or an "unhealthy" meal. Maybe you've said this yourself — and while there's nothing wrong with making sure you have a balanced diet, body-positive blogger Sara Puhto wants you to know that there's also nothing wrong with treating yourself.
In a post to her Instagram page last week, Puhto opened up about recently gaining weight — and having no regrets. Puhto posted two photos of herself side-by-side, one in which she is relaxed, and another in which she is flexing her core.
"If I flex really hard and am in great lighting I have 3/4ths of an ab," she wrote.
Puhto explained that while visiting a new country, she ate everything she wanted because she didn't want to restrict herself — nor should she have to.
"I didn't want to restrict myself from eating these foods because I don't get these kinds of foods here in South Africa so obviously I had to enjoy it while I could!!" she wrote. "I regret nothing, even though I have gained a bit of fat and have been breaking out on my face!"
She added that while she's now going back into her usual workout routine and eating healthier than she had previously, that doesn't mean that she feels bad about eating what she wanted.
"This doesn't mean I'm going to fully cut out junk food, I'm just going to eat more intuitively!" she wrote. "If you're also going through fat gain and feeling sluggish due to a bit of overeating of junk food, please don't beat yourself up. That's the last thing you need!"
After all, taking care of yourself is the most important thing of all — and self-care means many different things to all of us.
"You never need to feel bad about fat gain, it's a thing that happens to everyone and is reversible if that's what you want!" she wrote.
Puhto is right — life is short, and we could all probably afford to feel less guilty about enjoying ourselves.
