The stars came out in full force for yesterday's 95th Academy Awards ceremony. The highly-acclaimed Everything Everywhere All at Once swept the night, winning in categories including Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director and Best Picture. Along with sweet speeches from stars whose recognition was long overdue, we were totally captivated by the stunning style that overtook the red (or rather, champagne) carpet at the Oscars.

Our top look of the night was a toss up between Mindy Kaling, Angela Bassett and Cara Delevingne, but today, we're thinking of some of the most popular trends from the Oscars red carpet. From new takes on the classic black dress, to exciting developments in sustainable styles to dramatic Old Hollywood glamour, we've rounded up the top trends that you'll want to shop for the galas, weddings and proms you have coming up this year.

Seen on Lady Gaga: Black is the new black

When in doubt, a black dress is always a win—take it from Elizabeth Olsen, Jennifer Connelly and Lady Gaga.
When in doubt, a black dress is always a win—take it from Elizabeth Olsen, Jennifer Connelly and Lady Gaga.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that black and white were the two most defining colors on the champagne carpet this year. After all, these colors are, well, evergreen. Black is always an elegant and timeless choice, but for the Oscars, designers created gowns that added a subtle twist to classic designs. Elizabeth Olsen was absolutely glowing in a columnar Givenchy gown that draped around her body like liquid, and Lady Gaga opted for a Versace gown that was quite literally hand-picked from last week's runway show. However, it was Jennifer Connelly's Louis Vuitton gown, complete with a high, bejeweled neckline that really defined a new take on basic black—mainly because there was nothing basic about it.

To take a twist on black in your own wardrobe, start with the Off Shoulder Dress from Lama Jouni for a style that's not just elegant and sophisticated, but also makes use of some of the seasons hottest trends like the off-shoulder design along with long sleeves that mimic opera gloves. Want to replicate the boned bodice of Lady Gaga's Versace gown? Consider the Corset Tulle Gown from BCBGMaxAzria, which has yards of gossamer tulle for a light and airy effect. Finally, for something a bit more classic, look no further than the Xscape Off the Shoulder Notch Neck Crepe Gown which takes a traditional design and updates it with a delicate notch along the neckline.

Worn by Michelle Yeoh: Winning in winter white

From Michelle Yeoh's award-winning style to the beautiful synchronicity of gowns wore by Emily Blunt and Mindy Kaling, white was the color du jour at the Oscars red carpet.
From Michelle Yeoh's award-winning style to the beautiful synchronicity of gowns wore by Emily Blunt and Mindy Kaling, white was the color du jour at the Oscars red carpet.

During yesterday's Oscars ceremony, actress Michelle Yeoh made history as the first Asian woman to win the Best Actress award, and she did so in a stunning feathered white Dior Couture gown. Yeoh wasn't the only one who donned a white gown for last night's festivities, though: Stars like Sofia Carson and Emily Blunt also wore stylish white designs. Carson's Giambattista Valli gown was voluminous and dramatic, while Blunt's Valentino gown was sleek and minimalistic. Our top look of the night, however, had to be Mindy Kaling, whose corseted white Vera Wang gown was equal parts trendy and timeless. Not one to just wear one trend, Kaling changed into an identical version of the dress in black during the ceremony.

To steal Kaling's red carpet look, shop the Sade Mesh Gown from Nookie, which features a similar exposed corset, clean lines, and a plunging V-neck. If it's the feathery light feel of Yeoh's dress that you're after, opt for the Feather Bardot Stretch Crepe Maxi Dress from Karen Millen. The off-the-shoulder neckline is dotted with soft white feathers that wave in the air, offering both texture and movement all night long. Blunt's classic-with-a-twist gown is easily replicated with the Bronx and Banco x Revolve Elena Gown, which comes with trendy full-length gloves for a look that'll look tasteful and trendy in any photograph.

Spotted on Eva Longoria: Taking the plunge

Bold color and art deco-style embellishments were seen on Eva Longoria, Sandra Oh and Ariana DeBose, but it was their plunging necklines that stole the show.

Admittedly, a plunging neckline is par for the course at the Oscars. This year, however, stars opted for dresses that had far more to offer than just a deep V-neck. Take, for example, Sandra Oh's orange Grecian-inspired Giambattista Valli gown. The fabric draped beautifully around her body, offering volume and the ultimate in elegance. Opting for more eye-catching styles with plunging necklines were actresses Eva Longoria and Ariana DeBose. The two stars seemingly shopped the same closet, Longoria in a stunning art deco-inspired Zuhair Murad gown and DeBose in a flashy confection from Atelier Versace.

If a deep V-neck is calling your name, you won't regret shopping the Leila Deep-V Flutter-Sleeve Satin A-Line Gown from Anthropologie's wedding and bridal label, BHLDN. The design is elegant enough to wear to the most formal events, while the relaxed sleeves and flowing silhouette will keep you comfortable all night long. If you want to go bold and bright, look no further than the Plunge maxi dress with elastic cut out detail from Asos. The dress comes in lime green, one of the hottest colors today, and features cutout details and full sleeves that'll look just at home on a dance floor or a fancy dinner. To add a touch of art deco flair to your look, shop the Mac Duggal Stripe Sequin Plunge Column Gown, which has sequined stripes and an open back to give you a vintage-inspired yet totally contemporary look.

Worn by Harry Shum, Jr.: Subversive menswear

Whether it was careful beading, innovative silhouettes or unexpected styling, leading men like Jay Ellis, Harry Shum, Jr. and Riz Ahmed flipped the script on the Oscars red carpet.
Whether it was careful beading, innovative silhouettes or unexpected styling, leading men like Jay Ellis, Harry Shum, Jr. and Riz Ahmed flipped the script on the Oscars red carpet.

If there was one style lesson to be learned at this year's Oscars, it was that the days of traditional, uninspired menswear are over. Stars like Lenny Kravitz and Harvey Guillen shunned the rules entirely. Kravitz wore a silk blouse and wide leg trousers from Saint Laurent, while Guillen opted for a dramatic embroidered jacket from Christian Siriano. These subversive styles aren't just a sign of fashion trends, but show a shifting understanding of how men can and should dress today.

Our top menswear looks of the night have to go to Harry Shum, Jr., who wore an interpretation of a traditional tuxedo from design label Adeam, and Jay Ellis, who took a classic-with-a-twist approach with a beaded tuxedo from Fendi. Combined with actor Riz Ahmed's Prada suit, styled with an open collared shirt in unexpected colors, the Oscars red carpet this year shows us that the time for flamboyant and unapologetic menswear is now.

To add some fearless men's fashion to your own wardrobe, start with the Super skinny velvet sequin suit jacket from Asos, which features sparkling sequins along with velvet lapels for a jacket that is a play on traditional styles. If you're feeling extra bold, opt for the Caviar and Cocktails Gold Jacquard Black Label Suit from Shinesty, which makes bold use of a gold houndstooth pattern. Finally, if it's luxury you're after, Alexander McQueen has released a splurge-worthy, covetable Embroidered Stardust Tuxedo Jacket that is refined and sophisticated while still being fun, sparkly and totally fresh.

Spotted on Cate Blanchett: Sustainability leads the way

Stars like Cate Blanchett and Winnie Harlow opted to shop vintage styles, while Oscar first-timer opted for sustainable styles by celebrity designer Zac Posen.

While the red carpets often afford designers the opportunity to send out some of the latest in fashion, this year, celebrities turned to more sustainable practices like shopping their own wardrobes and designer archives. Winnie Harlow was dazzling in a bright yellow Armani dress from 2005, while Cate Blanchett opted for a blue velvet gown from the Louis Vuitton archives. An unexpected sustainable fashion moment at this year's Oscars? Avatar's Bailey Bass wore a custom Zac Posen gown made entirely from Tencel, a sustainable alternative to silk that uses half the amount of water required to make traditional textiles. Posen chatted with us about the sustainable textile and this stunning gown.

"For Bailey's dress, I wanted to create a special one-of-a-kind piece that felt like a second skin," says Posen. "I wanted it to feel glamorous, modern, and for it to be able to move with Bailey." When asked about the importance of considering sustainability in fashion, Posen remarked, "I have spent a great deal of time researching sustainable regenerative materials that are not harmful to our planet. I am currently working on one-of-a-kind pieces and special projects which is certainly a more sustainable method versus mass production. The fashion industry needs to produce less waste, less plastic—we need to find a symbiotic relationship between our planet and how we consume and create."

Want to incorporate some sustainable style into your own formalwear wardrobe? Instead of buying a new dress for each event that you'll wear just one time, consider renting a garment from a service like Rent the Runway, which you'll be able to send back after your event so other customers may enjoy it. Take for example, the Layered Rib Midi Dress from Simkhai, which is also made from a Tencel-blend fabric, and comes in a trendy lime green starting at just $30. For a more formal take, reach for the Jordyn Halter Gown from Rixo, which can be rented from $90 (a steep saving off the $790 retail price). Finally, consider looking toward sustainable retailers like Reformation for formalwear that you can feel good about, like the Aden Silk Dress.

Seen on Cara Delevingne: Dramatic Hollywood glamour

Sometimes, only old Hollywood glamour will do. Fan Bingbing, Florence Pugh and Cara Delevingne brought volume, color and drama to the Oscars red carpet.

Hollywood's biggest night wouldn't be anything without some classic Hollywood screen-siren style. Everyone's been talking about model-turned-actor Cara Delevingne's stunning red Elie Saab Couture gown, which featured a full skirt, gathered fabric along its asymmetrical shoulder and high slit. Not to be outdone, Florence Pugh donned a dramatic gray Valentino opera cape that opened to reveal the tiniest hot pants. And while they both looked incredible, we can't stop thinking about Chinese actress Fan Bingbing, who made our jaws drop in this stunning Tony Ward Couture gown. The glittering gown was totally overtaken by a diaphanous emerald green wrap with butterfly-wing sleeves. The look was perfection, and we'll be thinking about this one for a long time.

It can be difficult to replicate the drama of these custom couture looks, but fortunately, Asos makes things simple with their Puff sleeve satin sequin maxi dress, which features a sequined dress topped with rose gold puff sleeves that add volume and glamour. For a less formal take on the trend, consider the Puff-Sleeve Mini Dress from Aureta Studio, which uses exaggerated silhouettes in tasteful new ways. If a classic Old Hollywood style is more your speed, opt for the Mac Duggal Beaded Tulle Ballgown which features a full skirt along with a low back and pleated bodice in a red carpet-worthy crimson hue.
