Sherri Shepherd has been in the entertainment business since the late 1990s, staring in sitcoms, writing books, and hosting several television shows including The View. But, she’s telling followers a bit about her most difficult role to date — being a single working mother.

The 51-year-old took to her Instagram on Sunday evening to share a heartfelt post about the guilt she feels when having to leave her sons at home as a result of her job. Most recently, that guilt came when her commitment to a television interview conflicted with taking care of her eldest son, Jeffrey Charles Tarpley, who fell ill.

“Before I walked out the door, Jeffrey came down w [sic] a fever, sneezing and coughing & body aches…all he wanted was to be up under his mama,” Shepherd wrote. “Problem is if I don’t go out and earn the money, the entire house of cards will fall.”

Shepherd continued on to write about her ex-husbands who she pays alimony and child support, her landlord, her elderly parents, and the many agents and managers attached to her business that all rely on her ability to make money. More specifically, they rely on the comedienne to be in good spirits while making those appearances.

“It broke my heart to leave my child,” she said. “I hope when he gets older he’ll realize his mom did the best she could w [sic] him and her love was unstoppable.”

The mother-of-two has spoken about 13-year-old Jeffrey in the past, telling People about his “developmental delays.” Despite her admitted remorse, however, many offered Shepherd support in the comments and reassured her that she’s doing a great job.

“Your [sic] doing great mama Sherrie. Your [sic] like every single mom. We have to become all things for everyone in our lives. You look beautiful doing it too,” one person wrote. Another said, “Just want to remind you never apologize for doing what you must do,” also explaining that Jeffrey will undoubtedly thank Shepherd when he’s older.

Most of all, people are praising Shepherd for keeping her platform so real by sharing her relatable thoughts. “Life of a working mom,” a follower wrote, “celebrity or not.”
