‘She Just Had Enough And Snapped,’ Says Dad Of Gypsy Rose Blanchard

When Sheriff’s Deputies in Springfield, Missouri found 48-year-old Dee Dee Blanchard stabbed to death on the night of June 14, 2015, they discovered her special needs daughter, Gypsy Rose Blanchard, was missing, and her wheelchair was left behind.

Gypsy had reportedly been battling multiple, chronic diseases like leukemia, muscular dystrophy, paralysis, asthma, and epilepsy for most of her life.

Initially, police investigated Gypsy’s disappearance as a possible abduction. Gypsy was found the next day in Wisconsin, in the company of her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn. The pair were arrested in connection with Dee Dee’s murder.

Following their arrest, investigators discovered Dee Dee had suffered from Factitious disorder imposed on another also known as Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MbP). MbP is a mental disorder in which a caregiver systematically falsifies or creates illness, injury or disability in another. Dee Dee had been faking Gypsy’s ailments all along.

“She just had enough and snapped,” claims Gypsy’s father, Rod Blanchard.

Nicholas Godejohn has pleaded not guilty to the charge of first-degree murder in Dee Dee Blanchard’s death. His trial is set for December 2017.

Gypsy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. She was sentenced to 10 years and is currently incarcerated at the Chillicothe Correctional Center in Missouri. Why does she say she has “complicated feelings” about her punishment?
