Shawn Mendes dropped his first song since his breakup with Camila Cabello, and Shamila shippers are not going to be okay. The 23-year-old singer shared a 12-second snippet of "It'll Be Okay" on Instagram ahead of its release on December 1, and fans could already tell that the song was going to be emotional. Shawn let his guard down with these lyrics, which are heartbreaking and hopeful.

This wouldn't be the first time Camila has inspired Shawn to pen a heartfelt song. In his Netflix documentary, Shawn Mendes: In Wonder, he admitted that most of his music tied back to the former Fifth Harmony member. "My song comes on the radio or something and I'm like, 'Everything's about you. They're all ... They have always been about you,'" Shawn said of Camila. "She goes, 'What do you mean?' I'm like, they're all about you. Like every song I've ever wrote."

So, you're probably wondering if the lyrics to "It'll Be Okay" allude to Shawn and Camila's breakup. If you're wondering what it means for the former couple, look no further — we broke down the lyrics so you don't have to.

[Verse 1]
Are we gonna make it?
Is this gonna hurt?
Oh, we can try to sedate it
But that never works
Yeah

Shawn starts the song with questions about a relationship that's taking a tumultuous turn. He suggests calming the storm that's taking place with his partner but is doubtful that it'll solve any issues they have within the relationship.

In September 2021, Page Six reported that Camila started crying on a lunch date with Shawn. Camila hasn't revealed the exact reason she cried, but based on these lyrics, it may have related to the fate of her romance with Shawn.

[Pre-Chorus]
I start to imagine a world where we don't collide
It's making me sick but we'll heal and the sun will rise

This set of lyrics actually ties back to Shawn's 2020 song, "Can't Imagine" in which he sings "I can't imagine / what a world would be without you." On "It'll Be Okay," he's trying to imagine what it would be like if he hadn't met or been with his partner at all.

Ahead of the song's music video premiere, Shawn hosted a live stream on his YouTube channel where he revealed his favorite set of lyrics from the track. "My favorite line in the song is 'I start to imagine a world where we don't collide.' I like the word 'collide,' I like the image of two people not just meeting in life, but two people — boom — in life," he said, mimicking the sound of an explosion.

[Chorus]
If you tell me you're leaving, I'll make it easy
It'll be okay
If we can't stop the bleeding
We don't have to fix it, we don't have to stay
I will love you either way
Ooh-ooh, it'll be oh, be okay
Ooh-ooh

In the chorus, Shawn comes to terms that the romance may not work out and that they should part ways for the sake of their friendship and personal identities. He sings, "I will love you either way," which seems to tie back to him and Camila's public statement about their breakup. "We've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever," the former couple wrote.

[Verse 2]
Oh, the future we dreamed of is fading to black
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh
Oh, thеre's nothing more painful
Nothing more painful, oh-woah (Oh-woah)

When Shamila was still together, there was a flux of engagement rumors floating around. Camila shut down the rumors during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she said "He has not [proposed], and I am not engaged." In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Shawn said that they had "absolutely" talked about getting engaged.

His 2020 song, "24 Hours," also seems to paint the scene of a wedding. "All it'd take is 24 hours / We could dance, you could throw the flowers," Shawn sings on the track, detailing the traditional first dance between a bride and groom. Shawn and Camila's split has caused their plans for the future to "fade to black."

[Pre-Chorus]
I start to imaginе a world where we don't collide
And it's making me sick but we'll heal and the sun will rise

[Chorus]
If you tell me you're leaving, I'll make it easy
It'll be okay (It'll be okay)
And if we can't stop the bleeding
We don't have to fix it, we don't have to stay (Don't have to stay)
I will love you either way
Ooh-ooh, it'll be oh, be okay
Ooh-ooh

[Bridge]
I will love you either way
It might be so sweet
It might be so bitter
I will love you either way
It might be so sweet
It might be so bitter (Ooh-ooh)

[Outro]
Oh, if the future we've dreamed of is fading to black
I will love you either way
