Throughout his fifth and final Winter Games, the professional snowboarder has shown his TikTok followers what goes on behind the scenes at the prestigious sports event. Apart from showing fans the Olympic Village food and a glimpse into his competition prep, Shaun has also answered questions from curious folks. One in particular caught his attention and it read: “Did Nina get to go with you to cheer you on there?”
In a TikTok posted on February 6 he explained that due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols in China, The Vampire Diaries actress wasn’t allowed to join him in Beijing as a spectator. That said, Nina still found a way to make him feel a little closer to home. “I have been finding these pictures,” Shaun said. “Nina hid all these [photos] in my bag and in my shoes and in my carry-on and my overnight case with pictures of friends and family.”
He continued: “Everyone back home with little notes letting me know that they’re cheering me on from afar, which is really great … I miss everyone and I want to say hi, thanks for the support and I will see you all soon … Miss you guys. I’ll be home soon.”
After seeing Shaun surrounded by photos of his family and friends with handwritten notes, fans were overwhelmed with emotions. Many took to the comments section to share how incredibly thoughtful Nina’s gesture was and lots of folks felt there was only one thing left for him to do — propose to her. “I hope you wife her up!” one person wrote and more than 4,000 other TikTok users liked it. “Okayyyy you need to marry that beautiful woman! How sweet!!! 🥰,” another added. “Predictions say you're gonna propose soon 🥰🥰,” a different fan said.
According to Page Six, fans might not be too far off base. Ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympics opening ceremony, the outlet reported that Shaun had plans to ask for Nina’s hand in marriage.
“They are so freaking cute and solid together,” a source told the publication. “I would not be surprised if an engagement happens any day now. They share so many interests, they’re both driven, they’re both into self-healing and wellbeing. They’re both very spiritual and motivated. They’ve both worked so hard for so many years to make their own careers, so now they’ve decided that any free minute they get, they spend with each other.”
The two began dating in April 2020 after meeting at a 2019 event in Florida. Shaun and Nina’s relationship became Instagram official in May 2020, and they've been inseparable ever since. So, will the Olympian be taking a different kind of leap when he comes back to the States? Only time (and maybe Shaun’s TikTok) will tell!
