San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane received a three-game suspension for violating Rule 40.4 (Physical Abuse of Officials), the NHL announced Tuesday.
The incident took place during a preseason contest versus the Golden Knights on Sunday, when Kane appeared to strike a linesman with his stick before getting tangled up with the same official later in the sequence while engaging with defenseman Deryk Engelland.

The ejection came with an automatic three-game suspension, which the Sharks can appeal, TSN's Darren Dreger noted.
If the three-gamer holds up, Kane will miss the Sharks’ first two regular-season contests against, of course, the Golden Knights, plus the team’s third game against Anaheim.
Kane, who is slotted on San Jose’s second line and No. 2 power-play unit, put up 30 tallies and 56 points for the Sharks last season.
