On January 6, Shania Twain congratulated Taylor Swift for setting a new record as the female artist with the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart. Twain held the prior record at 97 weeks. Swift had now achieved 99 weeks in the top spot, after returning to the Country Albums chart with her re-recording of albums Fearless (Taylor's Version) and Red (Taylor's Version).
The 56-year-old country icon congratulated Swift with a quote retweet of the announcement from a Swift fan account.
“Let's Go Girls!!!!” she wrote. “Proud of you @taylorswift13. Historical records are meant to be made and then broken. The baton is meant to be passed on to new generations. Unstoppable young female country artists are [fire emoji] in spite of the hurdles,” she then added the hashtag #trailblazers.
Swift and Twain are friends, and the 32-year-old often cites Twain as a musical influence on her work. They performed together in 2019 with Ciara at the American Music Awards, dressed in complimentary extravagant pink gowns.
In a recent TikTok, Swift commented on the idea that “country girls can't go pop” and then cut to a montage of Twain, who is well-known for her crossover hits. She captioned it, “Learned from the best.”
In the comments, Twain wrote, “YOU INSPIRE ME,” with a flight of red heart emojis.
Twain has also praised Swift. In 2014, while discussing Swift's fifth studio album 1989 with Entertainment Tonight Canada, Twain said, “I think that everybody should just follow their heart and do their artistic best, and just enjoy their creativity...[Taylor]'s a singer-songwriter-performer, she does it all … the world is her oyster. She's young and she needs to just do whatever she's having fun at and I think everybody's loving it.”
