Last week, the Argentinian producer and DJ Bizarrap had a rather special guest lined up for the latest installment of his BZRP Music Sessions series: Colombian pop megastar Shakira. The music video, which premiered on YouTube on Jan. 11, saw the pair debut a Spanish language diss track aimed at the singer’s ex-partner, the former soccer player Gerard Piqué.

Shakira Releases A New Revenge Single ‘Out Of Your League’ In Response To Gerard Piqué Affair

Since the revenge single “Out Of Your League” launched, there has been so much speculation that the lyrics are a direct jab at Shakira’s, 45, ex, Gerard Piqué, and his new girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti, 23. The incendiary track–in which Shakira tells the 2010 World Cup winner: “You traded in a Ferrari for a Twingo / You traded in a Rolex for a Casio”–broke YouTube’s 24-hour record for the most-watched new Latin song, racking up 63.5 million views in a single day.

Shakira doesn’t hold back in her new single. She says phrases like “I am worth two of 22” which could be a reference to the age difference between her and the new girlfriend. The Columbian pop singer also mentions that she gave so much to someone that acted like a “champion” but when she needed him, Piqué gave her “his worst version,” which could be about Piqué’s infidelities, and the rocky end of their relationship.

The pop singer also accuses Piqué of being the real reason behind her ongoing tax fraud trial. She said in the song, “You left me as a neighbor to the mother-in-law / With the press at the door and the debt at the IRS / You thought you’d hurt me, but you made me tougher / Women don’t cry anymore, women invoice.”

Many fans are comparing Shakira’s new revenge single to Miley Cyrus’s ode to singlehood, “Flowers.” On her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth’s birthday, Cyrus, 30, dropped a cryptic new single praising self-love and taking aim at past relationships.

Shakira and Piqué met in 2010 on the set of the video for Shakira’s World Cup-soundtracking song “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa).” The singer and the soccer player, 35, started a relationship the following year. The pair then lived in Spain and had two sons together: Milan, born in 2013, and Sasha, born in 2015. However, in June 2022, Shakira and Piqué announced that they split. It was later revealed that Piqué had been cheating on Shakira with his new girlfriend Marti. Piqué has also reportedly been seen cozying up with Irina Shayk, a Russian model.

Singer Shakira was reportedly first alerted to ex-boyfriend Piqué’s infidelity when she noticed something missing from the fridge. The Colombian superstar is fond of jam—something neither Gerard nor their two children like. Shakira’s recent song lyrics allude to her discovering that Piqué had someone in the house—a mystery houseguest who was helping herself to Shakira’s food.

Allegedly, the “Out Of Your League” singer also put up a witch-like mannequin on a balcony at her Barcelona home, which happens to face her ex-mother-in-law’s house. Piqué’s mother told reporters about the doll dressed in black with wild gray hair, complete with a pointy hat and a broomstick, which she could see propped upon Shakira’s terrace. “Shakira setting up a witch mannequin on her balcony, to face her ex-mother-in-law’s house while blasting her Gerard Pique diss track at full volume is the petty standard we should all aspire to in 2023,” a person tweeted with a now-viral video that’s garnered more than 7.9 million views.
