Shailene Woodley Makes a Smokin’ Beer Maid
For a self-proclaimed hippy who claims “earth” as her religion and believes women need to form a stronger sisterhood, Shailene Woodley looked awfully comfortable in a somewhat sexist barmaid costume. But, when in Rome…or should we say, Munich.
While the actress was in Germany to promote her new film Snowden, she got into a different character and was seen enjoying Oktoberfest activities with her co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the film’s director, Oliver Stone. Sounds like fun!
We were surprised to see the 24-year-old who makes her own toothpaste and goes “off the grid” in between shoots in the outfit, you know, the corny costume waitresses have to wear during Oktoberfest.
Although while Americans associate the ensemble with college girls on Halloween, the Dirndl is actually steeped in tradition. Woodley’s had shiny blue and gold stripes and was designed by Amsel fashion. Under the blue bodice she wore a white shirt and showed off her cleavage. She topped off the outfit with white socks and black mary-janes.
She drank beer out of a huge mug, partied with pals, and appeared to be having a blast.
Woodley is known for her of-the-people style. When promoting The Divergent Series: Allegiant, she wore her own clothes — skinny jeans, a crew neck sweater (she wore a navy blue knit for her first appearance and a light brown braided piece for the others), black booties, minimal makeup, and a messy bun. No designer outfits or stylist necessary. But this is taking it to another level.
And two days after Oktoberfest, she was back to her earthy laidback ways. She attended the San Sebastian Film Festival in a black skirt and matching sweatshirt with multicolored splatters (that’s at least what they look like from far away but up close it seems they are depictions of nature) that remind us of an old-school Nickelodeon ad.
Oh Shailene, there’s never a dull moment when it comes to your closet.
