Surprising pretty much everyone on the planet, Green Bay Packers quarterback and Jeopardy! guest host Aaron Rodgers announced this past February that he was engaged during the 10th annual CBS "NFL Honors" show.

"Twenty-twenty was definitely a crazy year, filled with lots of change, growth, some amazing memorable moments, 180 straight days of having my nose hairs scraped, playing for very little fans," Aaron said during his speech. "I got engaged and I played some of the best football of my career."

Eventually, reporters and fans connected the dots that his fiancée was none other than Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated actress Shailene Woodley. Weeks later, Shailene confirmed the news herself while promoting her movie The Mauritanian on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.

"Yes, we are engaged. But for us, it's not new news, you know? So it's kind of funny everybody right now is freaking out over it. And we're like, 'Yeah, we've been engaged for a while.'" she told Jimmy, later joking that she never imagined marrying someone who "threw balls for a living."

Given that the couple had kept their relationship on the down low, many didn't even realize they were dating in the first place. After all, it wasn't until April of 2020 that Shailene confirmed to Bustle that she had broken up with rugby star Ben Volavola. What's more, the world didn't learn that Aaron and his ex-girlfriend of two years, former race car driver Danica Patrick, had split until July of 2020.

But even still, the 37-year-old quarterback and the 29-year-old actress quickly found love and decided to take the next step. As far as when their romance officially started, that has yet to be confirmed. But as Elle interestingly pointed out, gossip blogger Terez Owens wrote that the two had been spotted looking "quite cozy" together as early as mid-July.

Then, in September of 2020, Aaron opened up a bit on The Pat McAfee Show . Though he never mentioned Shailene explicitly, he seemed to be hinting at a big change in his life.

"There's just a lot of things that have come together in my life over the last few months that have really been enjoyable and reminded me, given me perspective in life and in football to view things through the most positive lens I possibly can," he said.

And then, boom — months later, we find out they're engaged. At the beginning of April, a source supposedly told US Weekly that Aaron and Shailene are currently in the process of planning out their big day. Aaron is allegedly figuring out "which family members to invite," given the reported rift between him and his relatives. The source also revealed that their wedding will likely take place in California, "where the majority of their friends and family live."
