When Sesame Street introduced Julia, a muppet with autism, first in digital form in 2015 and then in physical form on the show earlier this year, we were instantly hooked on the sweet and likeable character. Now, to continue in its quest to raise awareness for autism, Sesame Street is introducing Julia to every kid's favorite theme park: Sesame Place.
On April 22, the park is holding an exclusive sensory-friendly day - called "Variety Day" - for children with autism and other special needs to play, connect with other kids, and meet Julia. Not only will Julia be doing meet-and-greets around the park all day, but guests will receive a copy of We're Amazing, 1, 2, 3!, a book about Julia, so they can take her home and enjoy her story over and over.
"We are honored to welcome Sesame Street's newest friend, Julia, to our Variety Day this year," said Sesame Place Park President, Bob Caruso, in a press release. "We admire Sesame Workshop's dedication to spreading awareness about autism, and we're excited to be a part of the initiative."
