Serena Williams Will Be The First To wear Nike's Debut Crystal Tick
Serena Williams is no stranger to making a sartorial statement on court and her Wimbledon 2019 outfit is sure to please fashion and tennis fans alike.
Courtesy of a long-running partnership with Nike, the 37-year-old is set to debut the sportswear brand's debut 'Broosh' - the famous Swoosh logo reimagined in Swarovski crystals.
The fashion-forward tick will feature a grand total of 34 jewels by the cult Austrian brand, a tribute to the age Williams was when she won her most recent London Slam at Wimbledon in 2016.
'I wanted her to feel like it was something her grandmother could have worn but of course give it a modern spin and make it just right for Serena,' Abby Swancutt, global design director for NikeCourt, said in an official statement.
At this year's tournament, Williams will wear a knit dress emblazoned with the bespoke tick - a clever way to navigate the all-white dress code.
Though it won't be the first time the tennis champion has graced the headlines courtesy of her covetable sports clobber.
For the 2019 French Open, the mother-of-one collaborated with Off-White creative director, Virgil Abloh, on a bespoke outfit sprawled with the empowering words, 'Queen', 'Champion' and 'Mum' in French.
'I felt so feminine in the tutu, which is probably my favourite part of it. It really embodies what I always say: that you can be strong and beautiful at the same time,' Williams said on the designer ensemble.
While her post-maternity comeback saw the new mother don a Nike bodysuit designed to prevent blood clots.
After giving birth to her first child, Alexis Olympia, doctors discovered a haematoma (a swelling of clotted blood outside of a vessel) in her abdomen.
The new mother's skin-tight catsuit was specifically designed to prevent future potentially life-threatening blood clots. However, the look sparked outrage, as French Tennis Federation President, Bernard Giudicelli, promptly banned her from wearing the all-in-one at future tournaments.
