Selena Gomez has opened up about how paparazzi have impacted her dating life, and how easily photos can be misconstrued by her fans.

In a new candid interview, the 28-year-old revealed dating rumours about her and her Only Murders In The Building co-star and on-screen love interest Aaron Dominguez led to harassment for him on social media, even though they weren't true.

Pictures of PDA between the pair went viral, despite actually being from a scene Aaron and Selena were filming, and eventually leading to trolling of Aaron on social media.

He was able to make light of the situation, which involved trolls saying 'she deserved better' and asking him to 'stay the f**k away from Selena', but the actress says the fall out definitely impacted her dating life.

"We had just started working together," Selena told Los Angeles Times. "I honestly thought, ‘No wonder guys don’t want to date me!’ I think people only care because I’m young, and the older I get the less they’ll care. For now it’s a part of the job that I don’t really like. I’m actually grateful that I’m not involved with anyone right now.”

Gomez also addressed the viral photo out of her giving the middle finger to a pap while working on her show. "Somebody was being disrespectful," she explained.

"And I don’t do well with that. Look, I am a very modest person, until you disrespect people. Maybe [it wasn’t] my best moment, but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. And I felt very okay with being like…‘Don’t talk to people that way!’"

Gomez and Dominguez have been filming for Only Murders In The Building in New York City. The comedy comes out on Hulu later this year.
