Selena Gomez was honored with Variety's Hitmakers Film Song of the Year award for the title track of her Apple TV+ documentary My Mind & Me. Before she graced the stage to accept the award, Sel hit the red carpet, where she opened up about the direction of her new music.

Sel chatted with Variety's Marc Malkin about the "powerful, empowering" and "really happy" new music she's preparing to release. "I am so happy, and you're going to be so happy when you hear the music, I promise," she beamed. "I want everyone to feel good when they hear the new record."

Along with spilling the tea on the direction of her new music, Sel revealed to Variety that she'd be happy to collab with fellow Hitmakers honoree Dua Lip, who she called "such a breath of fresh air." She gave Dua props for ushering in a new wave of dance music. "I just think she's powerful," she added. "I think she's beautiful."

This isn't the first time the singer shared details about her upcoming studio album. While promoting her Apple TV+ doc with Zane Lowe in November, Selena discussed what subjects she'd be tackling on the new project. "To be honest, I'm now telling stories that people don't know. People I've dated that people don't know," she said. "Experiences I've had that people don't know. I've created this private life that's just mine."

"Now I have to tell these stories, and people are going to ask a lot of questions…If I'm being completely honest, it's been really difficult. I'm really used to go going into a setting with the same people in my circle and banging out music," she continued.
