Selena Gomez Is the Latest Celebrity to Get a '70s Shag Haircut

Selena Gomez is one of our favorite celebrities for many reasons, from her bops to her real talk on social media. But another of the best things about the singer, actress, and producer is the fact that she’s completely unafraid to change up her look, especially when it comes to her hairstyles.

She’s up to her old tricks again, this time debuting a new shag haircut and bangs while in London for a promotional tour. Her go-to stylist, Marissa Marino, debuted the look on her own Instagram, writing, "New shag for London promo @makeupbymelissam @kateyoung @thatgirlbeverly @marissa.marino." The style is super cool in that easygoing ’70s way and frankly looks fantastic paired with the double-denim outfit Gomez and her stylist picked out for the occasion.

The animal print coat is also fantastic.

Gomez’s latest cut is similar to one she had back in 2016 — but this version is quite a bit shorter, giving it a fresher, more modern feel. "She was going for a ‘70s-inspired look," Marino told Glamour at the time. "She wanted them [the bangs] long and feathery, which is a trend right now."

The cut, which has been popular on other stars like Kaia Gerber and Dakota Johnson in recent years, is one that can work on a variety of face shapes and hair types. "Depending on your hair texture, the shag is a versatile cut that can be worn extremely messy or seamlessly straight. It also gives a nice amount of body,” stylist Anh Co Tran told Glamour.

That versatility is one of the best things about the style. If you need to look more polished for a work party but want to go out after, you can add some texturizing spray (like this one from Oribe) to give it a more “I woke up like this but isn’t it chic?” vibe.

Whichever way it’s styled, we’re guessing the ’70s shag is about to see a big resurgence thanks to Ms. Gomez.
