It looks like we’re getting a bigger glimpse into Selena Gomez’s personal life. On August 17, 2022, dedicated Selenators stumbled upon a database that revealed the 30-year-old star has a documentary in the works. Fans even made “SELENA DOCUMENTARY IS COMING” a trending topic on Twitter. Selena then officially confirmed the news with an Instagram post on September 8, 2022.

When does the Selena Gomez documentary come out?

Selena made the official announcement about My Mind and Me with an Instagram post on September 8, 2022. “Wanna hear a part to my story…My Mind and Me coming soon to @AppleTvPlus,” the “Calm Down” singer wrote in her caption.

Per a report by The Wrap, My Mind and Me is set to premiere at the American Film Institute Festival in Los Angeles on November 2, 2022. “AFI is proud to launch AFI Fest 2022 with Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me, a film as profoundly powerful as it is personal,” AFI president and CEO Bob Gazzale said. “Selena is a global force in art and entertainment, and we are honored to partner with her, [director] Alek [Keshishian], and Apple to shine a light upon her journey in this beautifully crafted celebration of optimism, vulnerability, and hopefulness.”

According to a teaser trailer Selena posted to Instagram Reels on September 20, the doc will officially hit Apple TV+ on November 4, 2022. In the teaser, we see the singer cry, laugh, and perform while her breathing plays throughout the clip. “My Mind and Me. We don’t get along sometimes and it gets hard to breathe…but I wouldn’t change my life,” Selena wrote in her caption.

What is the Selena Gomez documentary about?

A press release by Apple reveals that the documentary is directed and produced by Alek Keshishian. The film will show fans an intimate side of Selena’s personal life amid her global success as an actor, producer, entrepreneur, and recording artist.

The official synopsis for the Apple TV+ documentary is as follows:

“After years in the limelight, Selena Gomez achieves unimaginable stardom. But just as she reaches a new peak, an unexpected turn pulls her into darkness. This uniquely raw and intimate documentary spans her six-year journey into a new light.”

How did fans accidentally find out about Selena Gomez’s documentary?

Capital FM previously reported that a screenshot from the database FilmRatings.com began circulating on Twitter on Wednesday, August 17, 2022. “SELENA DOCUMENTARY IS COMING” became a trending topic on the social platform once fans caught wind of the info, and we even checked out the database ourselves to see if the title for Selena’s doc appeared as it did in a tweet from PopBase.

It did show up on August 17; however, the title has been removed from the database as of August 18, ahead of Selena’s official announcement. Before the data entry was taken down on FilmRatings.com, it revealed that Selena’s documentary is rated R for language and that it would be called Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me. Distribution—aka where we can potentially stream the project—was credited to Selena’s record label, Interscope, and Apple TV+.
