Selena Gomez may joke about her single status on national television, but that doesn't mean she wants the world to know about her dating life.
Unfortunately for Gomez, the pop star's grandma chose the exact wrong moment to ask about her latest romantic venture, and by “wrong moment,” I mean the moment Gomez was filming a makeup video for her millions of followers on TikTok. In a video first shared by Rare Beauty and later uploaded by Selena Gomez, the beauty mogul can be seen applying lip liner for the camera when an offscreen voice asks, “So how did you end it with that guy?”
Immediately, the singer's eyes widen in panic before she replies, “Uh…I'll tell you in a second.” After continuing to line her lips, the moment seems to hit her again and Gomez noticeably cringes. “I have no words,” she wrote over the video, which was posted on July 21 and currently has 1 million likes.
Obviously, Gomez wasn't too worried about the dating update getting out, considering she let her team upload the moment to her Rare Beauty account as well as her own TikTok. “Thanks, Nana 🤪,” she captioned the Rare Beauty TikTok.
Still, fans got a kick out of the relatable reaction. “Nana with the TEA,” one user replied, gaining over 50,000 likes. Well, semirelatable. One user commented, "That panicked look like, ‘Not now Nana, I'm making a TikTok that millions of people are going watch.’”
Mostly, fans had follow-up questions. “YEAH SELENA HOW DID U END IT WITH THAT GUY,” the top commenter asked, while Sonic (yes, the fast-food chain) replied, “*Patiently waiting for more while sippin on a slush.*”
This isn't the first time Gomez has been exposed on camera. Back in August 2020, Gomez was visibly flustered after receiving a call from a “cute boy” while filming an episode of her HBO Max series Selena + Chef. “Hey, I have to call you back. I'm cooking,” she told the mystery caller before trying to get back in the zone with chef Roy Choi. “Uh, who—what am I doing?” she asked. “I just got, like...”
“Distracted,” her grandma Debbie Jean Gibson quipped. Clearly, Debbie gets to hear all the good stuff.
