With celebrity status comes access to hundreds of designer clothing labels. So it’s pretty notable when an A-lister wears the same brand on repeat. But when they wear it non-stop in the span of one month, we’re ready to launch a full-on investigation. The latest culprit: Selena Gomez, who has worn three different pieces from Naked Cashmere since the start of 2020.
She rang in the new year wearing the brand’s cozy Makena duster in Honolulu as a beach cover-up. Two weeks later, she stepped out in its coffee-colored Sansa coat. And most recently, she was spotted heading to dinner in NYC in the best-selling Joslyn sweater (currently sold out in every color). In December, the paparazzi also photographed Gomez leaving her hotel in London wearing the Campbell sweater and Aubrina pants. Clearly, she’s on a cashmere craze.
The soft and sumptuous fabric is highly sought-after for its warm, insulating properties, so it makes sense that Gomez is wearing so much of it right now. Naked Cashmere is a relatively new brand, launched in 2016 by Bruce and Leslie Gifford. The duo has been in the industry for more than 20 years and found a way to offer the luxe fabric at affordable prices after a trip to Mongolia. They’ve done this by working directly with factories there, ultimately cutting out the middlemen and knocking down the price for us. Its pieces are 100 percent cashmere at just half the traditional retail price.
Take Gomez’s Campbell sweater, for example: It costs $275 but would normally sell for $550. For a piece of quality cashmere that’s expected to last you a lifetime, that’s not all that bad. The label has also become a staple in the closets of Gigi Hadid, Hailey Bieber, Elsa Hosk, Demi Moore, and Lily Aldridge. Leonardo DiCapriio’s girlfriend, Camilla Monoroe, even designed her own cashmere collection with the brand.
